Fighting against Islamophobia and supporting opportunities for British Muslims has been as the heart of my political career since I was first elected as a councillor to Manchester City Council in 2000. From my time as a councillor, Lord Mayor of Manchester, Member of European Parliament and now as your Member of Parliament, I have always sought to combat Islamophobia be it through parliamentary debates, correspondence with ministers, hosting events and initiatives. My work on Islamophobia spans decades and while there have been many triumphs, there is still much work to be done to raise awareness of Islamophobia so that we can stamp out this scourge in our society for good.
