The scandal surrounding Boris Johnson’s recent comments has highlighted a wider pattern of Islamophobic behaviour within the Conservative Party.  It is disgraceful that such a senior Conservative Party politician can make comments such as these that will undoubtedly put Muslim women across the country in danger. I have previously written to the Conservative Party Chair, Brandon Lewis, raising this issue and calling for steps to be taken to tackle Tory Islamophobia. Two months later and I still have not received a response, a clear indication of the lack of concern for the discrimination and disrespect that these incidents have caused British Muslims.

I challenged the Prime Minister on this issue back in June, and will continue to push the Government to take action against the prejudice within its own ranks and to launch a party-wide inquiry into Islamophobia.
