This year’s Labour Party Conference was a fantastic event and highlights how a Labour Government would offer a fairer, greener future.

It was a pleasure to speak at many panel and fringe events in Liverpool. Firstly, I spoke alongside The Bar Council and The Law Society discussing the Government’s disastrous cuts to the Criminal Justice System, and the importance of funding legal aid properly to ensure access to justice.

I then spoke about the very serious issue of rising Islamophobia both here in the UK and Europe, drawing on my time as a Muslim Member of the European Parliament and now as Chair of the Labour Muslim Network at the ‘Confronting Islamophobia Across Europe’ event.

I was delighted to attend and speak at the Faith in Labour reception, a new initiative which brings together faith communities and organisations across our movement, and recognises the invaluable work they all do.

Finally, I spoke at the Labour Muslim Network fringe event where I highlighted the challenges and opportunities for Muslim members and supporters across the Labour Party.

I also had the opportunity to meet with dozens of unions, charities, and organisations who are working hard to improve the lives of those living in Manchester, the UK, and the world more broadly.

It was thrilling to hear Keir Starmer’s inspiring speech at Conference, along with my frontbench colleagues as we set out plans for a fairer, greener future.

There were ten key policy plans announced:

  1. Reverse the Tory cut in the 45% rate of tax
  2. 100% clean power by 2030
  3. A new target of 70% of people to own their own home
  4. 13,000 additional police officers and PCSOs into communities
  5. Train 5,000 new health visitors, create 10,000 extra nursing and midwifery placements, and double the number of medical school placements.
  6. Free breakfast for every primary school pupil
  7. A new Industrial Strategy to grow the economy
  8. A new Corporate Fraud act
  9. Create Great British Energy – a publicly-owned clean energy company
  10. National Wealth fund to invest in towns and cities across the country

Labour is ready to work hard for all people and a Labour Government will ensure British people are not just surviving, but thriving.
