Over the past couple of months, I have been amazed at the number of mutual aid groups across Manchester Gorton who have been working to support their neighbours during the Covid-19 lockdown. I had the chance to visit a handful of these groups including the Levenshulme Inspire Centre, Qadria Jilani Islamic Centre, Fallowfield and Withington Foodbank, the Ardwick & Longsight Mutual Aid Group and the Myriad Foundation, to see first-hand the great work they’ve been doing.

Teams of volunteers have been working round the clock to help deliver food parcels to vulnerable and shielding residents. I’m really proud to have so many wonderful social outreach projects in my constituency. It’s heart-warming to see our community pulling together to support one another in these difficult times.
