Housing is one of the greatest issues raised to me and my office. Many renters are struggling with rogue landlords, the lack of social housing in Manchester Rusholme, and needing a safe and reliable home. This is why I am proud to support this Labour Government’s Renters’ Rights Bill, which will abolish no-fault evictions, limit rent increases to no more than once per year to the market rate and expand the Decent Homes Standard to private rented homes.

  • I have supported campaigns to reduce the prevalence of furniture poverty across the UK.
  • I met with Housing and Communities Minister to discuss local housing issues in my constituency and the Government’s plans to build 1.5million new homes in 5 years.
  • I joined a group of Labour MPs who are calling unfair leaseholders to account.
  • I supported the Government’s intentions to create the biggest upgrade in protection for renters in the Renters’ Rights Bill, which is currently going through its final stages in Parliament before becoming law.
  • I have met with high level management of property management companies and housing associations in my constituency, including Places for People to discuss ongoing housing issues constituents are facing.
  • I shared my frustration with the actions of many leasehold and management companies that leverage excessive and ambiguous service charges on leaseholders and tenants in the chamber.
  • I raised the difficulties that my constituents face in accessing decent quality housing in my debate on community health in Manchester Rusholme.
