The Government was right to condemn Iran for risking further destabilisation in the region over the weekend. Yet, this event has only gone to highlight the hypocrisy of the Conservative Government by demonstrating, once again, that is it incapable of holding Israel to the same standards that they hold other nations by not condemning Israel’s continuing violence in Gaza. Six months on from the beginning of this conflict, the Tory Government has still yet to properly condemn the heinous actions of Israel that have resulted in the deaths of over 33,000 Palestinians, many of whom are innocent doctors and aid workers, women, and children.
In the House of Commons today, I called on the Foreign Office Minister to condemn Israel’s blatant violations of international law like many other nations have rightly done already. He did not. The Government is incapable of calling out Israel’s disregard for Palestinian lives and is standing back as Israel continues to sow chaos in Gaza. Even when Israel kills three British nationals, this Conservative Government remains hesitant to act against them.
This Conservative Government is weak in the face of Israel, unwilling to truly condemn their disregard for international law and is idle in its defence of civilian life. It is completely and ashamedly unsuccessful in forcing Israel to substantially increase the amount of aid allowed to enter Gaza. The result of this is that over a million people are at serious risk of catastrophic hunger, starvation, and famine. This cannot continue yet it is destined to if the Conservatives do not condemn Israel’s actions.
As your MP, I will continue tirelessly to hold Rishi Sunak’s Conservative Government to account, and I will repeatedly demand that the Tories condemn Israel’s actions. I will also repeat my many calls for an immediate, and continued, ceasefire in Gaza. Israel cannot be allowed to continue its campaign of bombing civilians, killing children, and cementing chaos in its own back yard.
