Climate, environment, and clean air are of huge importance to me. Better environments result in healthier, longer lives, as well as give us pride of where we live. I know this is also an extremely important issue to younger generations, who have worries about how climate change will impact their future and this planet. This is why I continue to raise this issue locally and in Parliament, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to live a happy and healthier life.

  • I sponsored Asthma & Lung UK’s exhibition in Parliament showcasing personal stories from people impacted by air pollution across the country.
  • I supported the Clean Air (Human Rights) Bill to require the UK to meet World Health Organisation air pollution guidelines by 2030 – improving the health and wellbeing of all our communities.
  • I have hosted and met with Keep Britain Tidy in Parliament multiple times, including celebrating their campaign launches of the Great British Spring Clean and Love Parks Week 2025.
  • I have joined many litter picks across the constituency, with Moss Side Eco Squad, Manchester Refugee Support Network, Keep Manchester Tidy, and others.
  • I have written to Minister Mary Creagh regarding the Government’s plans to tackle fly-tipping.
  • I was proud to be re-elected as the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Parks and Green Spaces. I have been enjoyed visiting parks in my constituency for cultural celebrations and supporting local initiatives.
  • I celebrated UN World Environment Day 2025, with this year’s theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.
  • I held an Adjournment Debate on Community Health in Manchester Rusholme, where I raised the value of accessing local natural environments, especially for my constituency where garden space is so limited with the Minister.
  • I made a statement on the global waste crisis and the circular economy as a Member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment.
  • I raised the importance of protecting climate vulnerable countries in COP conversations.
  • I sponsored an event in Parliament with Green Alliance to raise awareness of the damage of methane emissions as a global warming gas.
  • I hosted Parliamentary Receptions with Global Action Plan, to push for action on indoor air pollution and domestic wood burning.
  • In a debate, I raised the issue of air pollution when discussing the damage caused by fossil fuel advertising in aiding the climate crisis.
  • I met with Greenpeace UK and Environmental Investigation Agency to discuss the ways the UK can be more ambitious in pushing for cuts in plastic production.
