I started off the month by visiting the Bee Sanctuary at Highfield Country Park.Β It was fascinating to learn how easy and accessible it is for everyone in the community to get involved with helping bees and pollinators in the constituency.

I spent some time this month writing an opinion piece about looking after the earth and how this is an integral part of the Islamic faith.Β I reflected on the significance of Ramadan in providing Muslims with a special opportunity to think about ways to live a balanced and sustainable life.
You can read this piece in The New StatesmanΒ or The New Arab.Β
After that, I went to Rome along with other political and religious figures from across Greater Manchester to meet Pope Francis.
Pope Francis addressed the impact environmental issues have on poorer communities across the globe and how social issues are engrained with environmental issues.Β It was a great honour to be a part of this conversation.
On Saturday 22nd April, I took a moment to celebrate Earth Day.Β I believe it is integral that we reflect on the environment and continue to show support for environmental protection every day.
Happy Earth Day!
Today we show our support for environmental protection.
Whether you plant trees, pick litter, or simply appreciate our parks – celebrate Mother Earth today and every day. #EarthDayinManchester` pic.twitter.com/ezfamlylOd

In Parliament, I attended the Cycling and Walking APPG drop-in.Β I recognise the importance of making cycling, walking and wheeling safe and accessible to everyone and I will continue to support this.

To end the month, I showed my support for Labour’s pledge to end the Tory Sewage Scandal and Labour’s Water Quality Bill.
This afternoon, I'll be supporting @jimfromoldham and @uklabour to end the Tory #SewageScandal.
If Conservative MPs care about their constituents and our planet, they'll vote to support Labour's Water Quality Bill. pic.twitter.com/3gHNLS24x9
