I have spoken to many constituents who are continuing to struggle with the rising cost of living.
Throughout the country people are anxious about whether they can pay their bills and heat their homes. Inflation is at a 40-year high, energy bills are expected to rise yet again this autumn, and the price of food is surging. Whilst this happens the Government is Missing in Action and failing to respond to multiple crises the British public are facing. Those on the lowest incomes – who have also seen the biggest impact from price rises – have seen universal credit cut and their budgets tightened even further.
I believe we have a duty to the millions of people across the country who are facing such hardship to do everything we can to alleviate and change it. In the UK in 2022, nobody should have to choose between heating and eating.
I am therefore carrying out a survey of my constituents to gather information on your experiences and feelings regarding the cost of living crisis. I will be sharing the results with the Government.
