For many of my constituents, the reality of home ownership has fallen woefully short of the dream.

Many constituents come to me for help with unreasonable or extortionate service charges, unscrupulous building management practices, and onerous and expensive conditions imposed with little or no consultation.

This is not what home ownership should entail.

That’s why the Labour Government has now published a consultation, Strengthening leaseholder protections over fees, charges and services, and I want to make sure your voice is heard. This consultation seeks views on how to implement proposals in the Leasehold Reform Act 2024, which will help leaseholders to better scrutinise and challenge unfair fees and charges and the reasonableness of services.

It also seeks your views on proposals for further reform related to the charges leaseholders pay and services they receive. These include UK government commitments to consult on reforming the section 20 major works regime and introducing mandatory qualifications for managing agents.

I am committed to fighting for a fairer system of home ownership, where leaseholders and tenants have a much stronger voice in how their homes are managed. The consultation closes on the 26th September 2025; you can have your say here.
