On the 11th February, the Home Office plans to deport 50 people from the UK on a charter flight to Jamaica.
This cannot be allowed to go ahead until we are assured the Government will not repeat their failures of the Windrush scandal.
I am proud to have joined colleagues in signing Nadia Whittome’s letter to the Prime Minister requesting that he cancel the deportation flight until his Government has published the Lessons Learned Review, which was commissioned in the wake of the Windrush scandal.
Our letter demands a publication date for Lessons Learned Review, which we believe is imminent. Indeed, a copy has been leaked, with recommendations that the Government should end its hostile environment policy, which is punishing foreign-born individuals who arrived to the UK as children.
Deportation flights are a brutal example of the Tories’ hostile environment, which must be stopped.
