I joined members of Unite the union and The Communication Workers Union on the picket line outside Rusholme First Manchester Bus Depot this month where drivers are on strike over unfair pay. Unite said - "The Rusholme drivers do exactly the same job with the same commitment to passenger safety as their colleagues across Greater Manchester – and when they are driving within the City Centre, they are even overlapping on the same routes."
It is unacceptable that drivers who work in a depot on the other side of the same city are paid as much as £5000 less per year and I fully support the drivers. First Bus Group are one of Europe’s biggest and most profitable bus groups and can afford to pay their workers a fair wage. I stand in solidarity with Unite the union members in their strike and hope that First will give their drivers a fair deal. Watch more here.
