The European Union is one of the greatest achievements in the name of peace. It has replaced war and conflict in Europe with peaceful negotiation and diplomacy for nearly 70 years now.
However, our peace and security simply cannot be taken for granted and is increasingly threatened by events on our doorstep and beyond.
SEDE is a sub-committee of the European Parliament’s Common Security and Defence Policy Committee (CSDP). It effectively serves to examine CSDP activity and hold its policy-makers to account to ensure they truly uphold the security of EU citizens.
In the next 5 years, SEDE will continue to scrutinise the CSDP, making sure it responds quickly and effectively to new and existing security challenges.
