APPG on Britain-Pakistan Trade and Tourism January event
APPG on Britain-Pakistan Trade and Tourism January event

I was delighted to host an event for the APPG on Britain-Pakistan Trade and Tourism this week. I was joined by representatives from Virgin Atlantic, the British Council and Pakistan in UK, as well as the British High Commissioner in Pakistan, HE Christian Turner, the High Commissioner for Pakistan, HE Moazzam Ahmad Khan, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi and Shadow Trade Secretary, Nick Thomas-Symonds MP.

As we gradually move out of lockdown, there is huge potential to boost tourism between Pakistan and the UK, as well as strengthening bilateral trade.

The relationship between Pakistan and Britain is an important one, with the UK being home to the largest Pakistani community in Europe. The diaspora has made significant contributions to British society and this has never been more evident, than during the pandemic.

The UK is also the third largest export market for Pakistani products accounting for approximately 8% of Pakistan’s global exports. In 2021 Pakistan’s exports to the UK increased by 33%, achieving a milestone of US$ 2 billion for the first time. Similarly, the UK’s exports to Pakistan increased by 4%.

All of the guest speakers gave wonderful insights and colleagues from across the house were elected as APPG officers.
